Hub and Tide
Awarded the commission by Boston Art Inc. and Marcus Partners.
These images are sketches, process shots, drawings, site photography, digital layouts of the facades and other materials to give a sense of the imagery and scope of the project.
A major theme of this work is creative exchange. I developed a visual connection between the chromosomes and the shipping containers to emphasize the way that exchange of matter and ideas promotes vitality and creativity. Boston’s Seaport is home to several biotech companies, as well as Connolly Terminal, where shipping containers arrive from across the world. This artwork is a valentine to Boston and all the various types of work that goes on in our city. The artwork was inspired by Hokusai’s “Great Wave over Kanazawa”, and Allen Rohan Crite’s drafted visions of the Navy yard.
